I grew up in a musical family. Which absolutely none of this wore off. I have a banjo just to be a chick magnet like all the other artist I know.
My dad has a small recording studio in our house and all the local kids would come over and play music with my dad and my brother david.
Well this kid Davey Jones Dave Jones was one. Two things were said about Davey. First one of the nicest most genuine people in the world. And one of the best guitar players in Modesto at the time. He and Jerry Thompson.
Time goes by. A LOT OF TIME!!!!! Jerry Thompson noticed I posted something on Dave's timeline. He got to thinking that might be little joey. He sent me a message asking me if I was that kid from so long ago. He sent me a message and we reconnected. He in a off handed way mentioned he connected with Davey.
I was like muthr...holy crap. It was Davey Jones the nerdy curly haired kid from my youth. I sent Dave a message call me.
He did. I asked him if he knew by dad Shorty Mann. We had not made the connection of our long ago past. Even now won't lie, I am half teared up.
One year Dave sung the song "Slip Sliding Away" for my mom on her bday. Every so often she would find her singing that song. Up until she passed she couldn't get that song out of her head. Everytime she would catch her self..."Damn Davey" she would say. She loved Davey as no other and often talked about him.
Dave Jones now plays in a band called Overdryve.Live as lead guitar. What else right. The bass player is the lead singer and wow! Those that have seen them know what I am talking about. They even have a keyboard player Dave V Hammond that plays...you guessed it a Hammond keyboard. Not to mention the other members of the band. All have the first name of Dave except for the Bass player! It always has to be the bass player.
Today is Dave Jones birthday. I think he is somewhere close to 19 give or take 40 years.
I have always been surrounded by awesome musicians and today I am so very fortunate to know so many talented local artist. My life is rich and full due to music and the people I see often at shows all have a special connection.
Go and enjoy music. Even if you aren't one to get out much, go to a local music event. Please wish Dave a happy birthday and like the Overdryve.Live page and say hi to the band.
THe links are to some music my dad wrote and sung. Just because.
